The Art and Soul of Food Writing
April 5-8, 2010 / Instructor: Becky SelengutJoin author and chef Becky Selengut for a 4 day food writing workshop that will introduce aspiring and current food writers to the rich and varied world where fork and pen co-mingle. We'll analyze and celebrate the diverse styles of M.F.K. Fisher, Anthony Bourdain, Laurie Colwin, Elizabeth David, Ruth Reichl, Calvin Trillin and others. We'll discuss the similarities and differences of writing for blog, magazine or book. Focus will be spent on how to pitch a story to a magazine editor and elements of writing a good book proposal. Each day's session will culminate in a chef demonstration where students will write up a description of the dish, its flavors, smells and tastes using the voice of one of the writers we've discussed.
